So, the question really is…is it okay to take Marley on my runs?
My son's friend told me that his aunt always runs with her dog. She competes in marathons. The dog hides when she pulls out his leash. Ya think?
On the other end of the spectrum is the proverbial canine version of the couch potato. "Oh, my Fancy wouldn’t last for a quarter mile." Fancy needs to get her butt off the sofa and go for ...

"Where's my UNC t-shirt?" "Why are my clothes always disappearing?
Of course, this interrogation is initiated at the most opportune moment; for instance, as I am walking out the door or he should be walking out the door. And, why should I know where his UNC t-shirt is anyway? I doubt I would wear it. He is 6'1", 185 pounds. I am 110 pounds and let's say a bit shorter.
Ah, living with two teenagers. Fortunately, their attributes far ...

School mornings find me making breakfast smoothies. School mornings usually find Tilly at my feet as I make breakfast smoothies. One never knows what treasures might fall from the sky. Yesterday, Tilly died and went to heaven, metaphorically speaking of course.
Frozen bananas are key to the texture, and most importantly the temperature of a smoothie. Frozen bananas are also considered by Tilly to be a delectable treat, secondary only to ice cream.
Thus, when a wayward banana sailed off the ...

Such an innocent face. Who would ever believe that this precious little doggie could be any trouble?
Hogwash! The dog is a hellion. For those of you who don’t already know, this term is used to describe a “rowdy, mischievous, or troublemaking person, especially a child.” Well, this is perfect, because this is Tilly in a nutshell.
What exactly possesses an 8-year-old dog to chew up a worn straw hat whose only value is sentimental? It survived several mission ...
Marley Goes Naked

The temperature was only in the mid-70s, yet Marley was panting as though he had been dropped in the epicenter of the Sonoran Desert. Clearly, he would not make it this summer as a Muppet. Out came the clippers.
At the conclusion of his shave, I looked upon his scrawny frame, finding it hard to imagine that at least some of his little personality was not cut away along with all that fur. And, evidently he ...
The Dog can't run her house from England
Posted by Holly Jarrett 02/25/15
I don’t believe that Tilly wants to go to England. Her concern is that one of her boys is going to England. Why has the boy pulled out the suitcase? Nothing good happens when the humans pull out these things.
Some dogs are clearly more endowed in the brains department than others. Some give the impression that they are actually a human trapped in a dog’s body. Tilly is one ...
Born to Chase Cats?
Posted by Holly Jarrett 02/01/15
Dogs and cats are natural enemies. Or are they? My dog Trudy would say that some of her best friends are cats. However, my other dog Marley would say his favorite dish is a cat. It's not as though he has had a bad experience with a kitty. Unfortunately, he joined our family at 11 weeks with an obsession to seek out cats to chase already locked and loaded. Obviously, this chasing is not ...
A Couch Potato with a Soul of Gold
Posted 01/29/15 by Matt Jarrett
As I sit at my computer typing I hear an exasperated exhale and glance across the room, only to make eye contact with two saucer-like eyes. Sprawled on the couch, gazing at me as if I had slapped her across the snout, is Trudy an eight-year-old beagle mix, the sweetest soul you'll ever pet, and neuroses personified.
Upon adopting Trudy from an animal rescue in 2007, my life took a turn ...
