Anyone who has raised children understands the potential for forgotten manners and the resultant embarrassment parents must endure. Apparently, this hazard is inherent in the personas of our fur-covered darlings as well.
To offer a little in the way of background, when we decided to sell our investment property we enlisted the services of a top notch realtor. We purposefully chose this person, whom for privacy sake I shall call Phlegm, based on his large number of ...

“Pumpkin?” Did Tilly’s vet just tell us to feed her pumpkin? Or maybe he was describing her rounded figure.
Clearly, something had to give. The dog was morphing into a giant Tootsie Roll. Gone was any hint of a waist. Her head appeared to have been pasted on as though an afterthought, along with four oddly spindly legs, saddled with the colossal task of supporting her portly torso.
“Cut back on the amount of food you are feeding and ...

The debate rages on. Are Pitbulls a danger to the public, or no more so than any other breed? Should they be illegal to own? Have they earned their bad reputation?
We have all heard the horror stories.
We have heard the other side of the argument as well. Heartwarming accounts of loyal loving pets.
My years working as a veterinary technician afforded me the opportunity to experience a wide variety of dog breeds, particularly under stressful situations when the ...

"Where's my UNC t-shirt?" "Why are my clothes always disappearing?
Of course, this interrogation is initiated at the most opportune moment; for instance, as I am walking out the door or he should be walking out the door. And, why should I know where his UNC t-shirt is anyway? I doubt I would wear it. He is 6'1", 185 pounds. I am 110 pounds and let's say a bit shorter.
Ah, living with two teenagers. Fortunately, their attributes far ...

Such an innocent face. Who would ever believe that this precious little doggie could be any trouble?
Hogwash! The dog is a hellion. For those of you who don’t already know, this term is used to describe a “rowdy, mischievous, or troublemaking person, especially a child.” Well, this is perfect, because this is Tilly in a nutshell.
What exactly possesses an 8-year-old dog to chew up a worn straw hat whose only value is sentimental? It survived several mission ...

Today was different. Mom says it was a "good" day, that I was a "good" dog. Tilly says that good dog does not mean good things. Good dog means hunger. Good dog means boring.
Tilly has agreed to teach me the finer points of not being a good dog.
Tilly provided me with a list:
Always be ready for opportunities. These might come in the form of an unattended chicken leg, or a bag of Skittles carelessly placed on ...
There's Something about a Dog.
Posted by Holly Jarrett 03/31/15
There is something to be said for simple acceptance of who we genuinely are. A dog doesn't care if you are having a bad hair day. And, they could care less if you have yet to respond to that email.
Their checklist is fairly straightforward:
Treat me with kindness.
Take care of my basic needs; food, water, exercise.
Spend time with me.
The gift of a dog. Smart and intuitive enough to provide empathy. Uncomplicated in that ...

Tilly is eight and one would think that she was beyond puppy antics. Beyond chewing up valuables, oh like say a Beats cord. How about raiding a cricket Kritter Keeper? But we know better, for we have lived with this conniving genius of a dog for six of those eight years. So, Saturday morning finds us at Target, purchasing a trash can with a child proof lid, as well as a lock tight container for the dog ...
Finally! A Foolproof Method to get Fido to Poop!!

Okay..., so it doesn’t exist. But, there are some tricks to the trade. As a pet sitter and dog walker for Lil’ Buddies Pet Sitters in Matthews, North Carolina, I have become a bit of an expert on this topic. Owners of my furry charges trust me to get their dogs out in the fresh air, but also to minimize the chance that they will find a “present” ...
Help!! My Cat Has Diabetes!
Posted 02/07/15 by Holly Jarrett
As owner and operator of Lil’ Buddies Pet Sitters and former veterinary technician, I am familiar with the distress a diagnosis of feline diabetes can produce. I too have personally experienced this disease in my cat.
As I looked back, I began to piece the puzzle together. Was Momma Kitty sitting at her water bowl several times last week? Was the litter box especially wet? Was she looking thin? Maybe it wasn’t just her ...
